An Orphan

I know there has been great talk over the last few months about Orphan Blocks, their origins and where they will end up, be it at Finn's Riding the Orphan Train, in a quilt like Patti's or as a gift for someone.

Now I have a problem. I haven't got that many orphan blocks. Ok, well a few letters, but not really as much ahouse1.jpgs all of you who have been quilting for years and years.

So I got to thinking about the ones I do own and remembered this.

It is only tiny and I was wondering what to do with it. I love it too much to give it away as it was the first proper house I made. I have still got some of the background fabric left and thought about making up a few more houses in different fabrics with the theme being the background. Perhaps it would be too much, I don't know.

I'm still quilting Little Acorns and thinking about putting more blocks together for a Leukaemia Quilt.

Summer has finally arrived - it's taken its time, but its arrived. Rumour has it we are going to have an Indian Summer.

Isn't it awful about the Foot and Mouth outbreak in the UK? We used to live near Guildford. Thankfully the other side to where the outbreak is, but still .........................

Love your little house block. Making more using the background sounds like a good idea. You could add a few trees, maybe flying geese blocks, and make yourself a little 'village'. Look forward to seeing any deveopments :)

I hope the foot and mouth is contained quickly...this has been a crazy summer here in the U.K. (by the way congrats on the award!)

What a cute little house! You could make more, or you could frame this up and display it as is. I have a little house block (I think I showed it on my blog - it's called the Luv Shack) that's only about 8" x 10" that I finished off and hang up seasonally. You don't say what size yours is, but you could always put more of the background fabric around it to enlarge it a bit.

I don't have many orphan blocks either Clare. I am usually so happy to be finishing a quilt that I'm counting every last one to get the right number.

What a cute little house! This definitely needs to become something. You could build a small quilt around it to hang on the wall. Put it in a placemat or table runner? Make a few more of the - or other complimentary blocks - and put them together. Eager to see what you do with this one Clare!

Talk about late for supper or the homecoming...LOL, I'm just browing your list of previous posts and I saw "orphan"..you know that got my attention, right??
It's an adorable little house, I hope you NEVER part with it. Perhaps a few other special "little" blocks or tiny letters to make a very personal "little" quilt for you!!
Hugs, Finn
