Interlude

Busy with Tonya's Challenge and one or two other bits and pieces. Just to brighten up the pages, here are some photos of our local town, Brantome.
This is my favourite - The Abbey.
This is the church on the other side of the river to the Abbey. The weekly market is held in the car park and the square behind it.
On the left is the Moulin d'Abbaye which is quite a famous restaurant (you need a second mortage to eat there!). On the right is the Pavillion de Renaissance. In the front is the famous Elbow Bridge. This is the oldest bell tower in France - dates back to Charlemagne. The church is on the right and on the left you can just see the Renaissance hotel de ville which was the Abbey.

Neat... My (step)in-laws can trace their ancestry back to the time of Charlemagne. I love the look of Old Europe without the ESSO (etc.)signs sticking in the way. :o)

Looks like a fairytale place to live.

Oh my gosh! Wow, thanks so much for posting and sharing these beautiful pictures. It looks as though you live inside a movie set but only real! I can only dream about living in such a beautiful place! I made a visit to Alsace a few years ago and had a hard time leaving!

Hi Kathy,

Amazing place - so small and yet beautiful. Did you know it has 18 (yes 18) restaurants ranging in price from 10 Euro for 5 courses up to 50 Euro for a starter (LOL - not quite).

Is it you that lives in Des Moines? Moines is French for Monks and we have a Jardin des Moines in Brantome.

Isn't Des Moines Bill Bryson territory?
