Will I ever learn?

Yesterday saw the inaugural online virtual retreat of the Liberated Quilters Yahoo! Group. I've never seen so much energy and motivation. Great fun - lots of chatter and some great work. Throughout the day, in betweeen chores, I hand quilted the borders on Liquorice Lane and late last night sewed the last stitch. This is where I should have stopped, but did I? Did I h**l! Out came the cutting mat, rotary cutter and long rulers to square up the quilt and cut. Oh My Goodness! STOP! Look! The cutter slipped and I lopped off half of the little house in the bottom left hand corner. Despite attempts to square up, left hand side is now definitely wonky. If I cut any more I'll end up with no border so leave it as it is, put the binding on and call it a day. Note to self. Never ever ignore that inner voice telling you to stop. Right Now!

Clare-
it is beautiful as it is...every quilt tells a story. I used to have the walls in my office covered with print media that I did that had mistakes in it (usually spelling errors- I'm a horrible speller). We called it my wall of shame. But over time, I noticed that people would ask about why I did it and I would tell them "it's so I don't take myself too seriously, that everyone makes mistakes..." lots of people learned from that wall.
Liberation is all about not taking things too seriously, right?

Ouch.

Yeah, I know that voice. The one that keeps saying "..one more thing.." What a pest.

I love this quilt.

This is such a great quilt -- love the colors, love the houses! And no matter how bad you feel about cutting off the house, to me it looks like there's another little house round the corner, you just can't see it all.

Knowing when to stop is a big part of art. I think it still looks great.

Sometimes that inner voice only whispers and it's hard to hear! It looks great Clare!

It looks ace - you can either leave it as a memory of a great virtual quilting bee, or continue it into the border with a white background. Or add another row of houses and make the quilt bigger. And then you would have to make more for the bottom because it would be the wrong shape and then and then and then...
OK, I will shut up.

Oh dear! That's too bad about losing half the house. Doesn't get much more liberated than that, does it?!

I really like it! Wonky is good. Accidents sometimes happen on purpose.
