Got the Gees Bend Bug

Long time - no post!

I've been busy doing other things, most of which cannot be shown.

I've also been cutting up shirts, corduroy and denim and once the corduroy was cut up got itchy fingers to start putting a quilt together. Black and pink - yummy!

As most of the pieces were very oddly shaped, I immediately thought Gees Bend.

So here is a record of my progress.

The first 2 blocks

the next 2

and yesterday's progress.

Unfortunately I've now run out of the dark pink and it doesn't look the same with just the pale pink and black so I've sidelined it until I can find some more dark pink.

In the meantime, I've got the denim bin out and am about to start playing with that.

Watch this space!

Summer is Coming to an End

and I'm feeling really guilty at not keeping my blog up to date.

What a summer it has been!

It started in April with TYO deciding she wanted to go to the ECE in Lyon so we had to spend a night and a day in Bordeaux so she could sit the entrance exam.

When the results came through about a month later she had been accepted on the Liste Principle! Top marks!

Huge celebrations!

Then she decided it wasn't for her and opted for a place at Bordeaux Uni 2 reading Sociology. About turn!

So how she's going to Bordeaux. Luckily one of her best friends is going to the same Uni so they've found a stunning flat in Meriadeck, which is really centre ville, and us parents have been getting together and deciding who buys what and who is going to pay for the various bills.

Then, of course, France being France there was the paperwork. Days and days spent on the computer filling in grant forms online, waiting for them to be sent to various email addresses so they could be printed off, attach the numerous attachments (don't ask!) and sent back to the office by snail mail.

Then wait. And wait. And wait. Biting finger nails syndrome!

Bingo!

And so TYO starts at Uni on 9 September. We move all the furniture in to the flat next Sunday and the girls move in the following Wednesday.

I've also been cleaning holiday homes which involves massive cleaning on a Saturday, followed by mega washing of bed linen and towels, followed by ironing Every Thing!

After all of that I may, just may, be able to get back to my sewing machine. I walk through my sewing room every day to get to the computer and I'm missing it.

Lets wait and see.

A+

Lady in Pearls

This is for Julie and one of my favourite photos, even if I say so myself :-).

I took this photo about a month ago. I have a long strand of imitation pearls which I hardly wear anymore. When I do they get taken off as soon as I get back into the house and are thrown down anywhere.

This time they just happened to land on the cover of The Daily Telegraph magazine. Et voila! This was not a set up shot. Honest!

We are brewing up for The Young One's Baccalaureate fortnight. Got lots to tell you on that front, but am not tempting fate so you'll have to wait until it's all over.

Lost Quilt!

This beautiful quilt (Charley's Cats) has gone missing.

It was made by my online friend Mary, who lives in Panama, as a surprise for for her daughter and two grand daughters, who live in Kentucky.

Here are some details.

Posted in a mailbox March 3, 2013 in Malibu, CA
Packaged in Priority Mail envelope with $6.00 in postage affixed
Addressed to Fort Wright, KY
Return address: Green Cove Springs, FL

Mary did label and sign it, but with a cloth label which would be easy to remove.

Please keep a look out for it and feel free to share this on your blog, Facebook Timeline or Twitter too

Mary and her daughter are desperate to get it back.

Thanks for reading.

Finished!

Blue and Pink were easy. Purple really stretched me as they had to be A4.

The Purple definitely is not!

My fav is Blue.

Brrrrr - It's Cold

We've had snow. We've had ice. We've had the lot!

As I type this the rain is tipping down and we have floods! The snow/rain is pouring off the roof.

Sorry there isn't much quilting to show, but I'm working on some commissioned name quiltlets for a friend and I can't talk about them until they are finished.

Celebrating Gwen!

If you are a follower of Gwen Marston you will know that 2013 is the last year Gwen will host, and teach at, the Beaver Island Quilt Retreat in September. The Retreat will still carry on, but will be hosted by Gwen's friends, Sue Nickels and Pat Holly.

So I wondered how we could celebrate Gwen's retirement and show her how much we appreciate her work and style of quilting, and hit upon this idea.

How about making a liberated block of your choosing and size. It could be a liberated star, a liberated tree, a small liberated solids block, anything!

Carol Vandenberg at Quilt as Desired is going to the Retreat in September and has kindly offered to take the blocks with her to present to Gwen. They have to with Carol by the 1st September.

If you are interested in participating leave me a comment and make sure I can contact you so I can send you Carol's address in Canada.

Perhaps you'd like to pass the word on too, though make sure your readers/Followers comment here so I can keep count of the blocks.
