Winging It

After yesterday's post,  you've probably gathered that I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for various packages to arrive. After I wrote the post, I popped over to Lynne's blog to have a look at her birds. I'm very taken with them.

I got the bins out and started matching fabrics. Fiddled about a bit with some scraps and created this.

There is a lack of contrast with the body and the beak, which is not pointy enough.

I emailed this photo to Lynne asking what she thought and, oh goodness, I didn't realise she had written a tutorial. I just looked at her photo and matched bits up as I went along.

So not bad considering I was winging it!

More soon.

If that is your first attempt without the tutorial, the rest of us had better get busy!

LOVE the long legs!

I saw these birdies the other day and was intrigued. Your intrepid jump into the sewing of songbirds is inspiring.

Oh yes, some of the best 'fiddling'
around I've seen. Especially since you were 'winging' it/no pattern!

Your winging is darn good. It is amazing how many little details go into the birds, ones that are hard to spot at first. I'm intrigued with the birds too. Good work for a first try.

Darling, Clare! And of course I must add, I linked up TO THAT Tutorial on my blog list of Free Liberated Quilting Patterns and Tutorial...haha!

However, you did a SUPER job and you have jump started the Lib Quilters at the Yahoo message board into making birds, now! I just explained 'jump starting' to a quilter in Australia..just in case she didn't know that American slang. Do you use that term in England? And what would it be in France? ;)
