One Day at a Time

I don't know what's happened lately.  The days seem to be running away from me.

Today is Monday (obviously!) and I have no idea what happened to the weekend.

The nights are beginning to draw in and the days are getting shorter.

This means only one thing.

Lots of stodgy winter food cooked in the crockpot, or alternatively butternut squash which I just love!

Looking at those gorgeous colours reminds me of my previous post - COLOUR.

Talking of colour.

I've been trying to empty the triangles bin.  You know the ones.  Those triangles which seem to appear from nowhere.  The ones you lop off when you join strips of fabric together at right angles, the ones that suddenly appear when your doing foundation piecing (they seem to migrate to the back of the block).  Don't you find they seem to mutliply and before you know it the bin is full!

Well, I've been creating more rioteous COLOUR.

I have no idea how I'm going to use them, but I'm having fun playing, and making more in between doing this.

I think this is going to be one of those quilts that just won't "play".  It doesn't seem to want to speak to me and is quite happy sitting there on the design wall sulking,  I really can't build up any enthusiasum for it at all.

However, it is hiding something which cannot be revealed as it is going to be a big surprise for someone who is very close to me and who I miss a lot.  Thank goodness for the telephone, both the landline and the mobile.

Talking about having fun.  Have you seen Tonya's glorious riot of  COLOUR?  Isn't it just totally totally .............. (I'm speechless).

Better get back to that sewing machine.

Colour!

Nifty Quilts (love love love her blog and quilts) has shown her Matisse quilt which she has been making.

I don't know what it is about that artist that makes me think colour!  Lots of  C O L O U R .

Colour is everywhere.

Even if it is black and white

  or gorgeous batiks log cabins

or tiny little scraps being made into blocks

or (and this is really the point of this post)

hats made out of cardboard

Now go back to Nifty Quilt's post about her Matisse quilt and look at the shapes.  Then come back here and look at those minute shapes.

I personally would have drawn them on, but oh no. The Young One painstakingly drew them, coloured them, then cut them out and stuck them on.

And the point of this post?

Ooops - sorry - The Young One had to do an art project last school year "Make a Hat Inspired by an Artist".

She originally chose Coco Chanel as she adores fashion.  The hat wouldn't click.  We tried everything, including having great fun with papier maché.

In the end she sought "inspiration" from her art teacher.  Together they sat down at the computer and typed various artist's names into Google Images.

The Young One fell for Matisse;

There - that's the point of this post.  Taken a long time to get there, but hope you had fun along the way.

Nearing Completion

Still got a lot to do.

I'm thinking of polystyrene tiles on that back wall, but we've got to be careful as the "brick" bit behind the sewing machine is the chimney.  We can't drill in to it and it gets fairly hot in winter.

Perhaps shelves instead on the left hand side.

We're going to try and find a table the same height for a cutting table.  It will go across at a right angle.

Also what is required is an office chair on wheels!

The ironing board will stay put.  Need to exercise those legs!

Perhaps a blind over that window.  It gets very hot and bright in the summer.

Now I really

AM GETTING EXCITED
