Seeing Stars

I still haven't quite got the hang these - they really are either incredibly wonky or liberated, depending on which side of the fence you sit.

Yes Tonya, I know the one bottom right hasn't got any contrast on the left hand point, but I'm still practising.  Actually that particular star is my favourite.

The one on the left has got another Clare's DOH.  I'm beginning to think that every single quilt I make will have a DOH in it!

There is a new shop in Brantôme selling Egyptian glass, ornaments, furniture and other bits and pieces, including appliqué cushion covers and throws.  Couldn't get a photo of the throws and only managed to get this one when the proprietor's back was turned!

Another hot day today.  We are getting ready for the Viveurs Annual Summer Meet which means cleaning out the barn, summer cleaning bedrooms and turning the house upside down!

Have a great weekend.

Brantôme Brocante

Not a lot of sewing.  Weather is boiling hot - bottom 30's (centigrade).  Lots of swimming going on and, of course, it is brocante/vide grenier season.

This is the latest haul.

A beautiful sewing basket.

I've been after something like this for ages to keep all the paraphenalia in when the sewing moves downstairs. An absolute bargain, especially when the stall owner did a deal and ..........................................

we came home with this gorgeous mirror. It weighs a ton. The frame is oak.

And then I found this for the bathroom. I love it!

I did manage to get 2/3's of a liberated star done yesterday.  I'm getting the hang of them at long last.  Photo's soonest I promise.  It's just that summer is getting in the way.

Yet another Red and White Challenge

I've finished Quilt No. 9 and Quilt No. 10 is already on the wall.

While I was going through the block bin I had another Challenge idea.  I Spy red and white blocks!  Most of the quilts go to small children - aged 3 upwards.  What better than red and white I Spy quilts.  Yes or no?

Can't See the Wood for the Trees

24252426

It's been an AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH few days.

I'm putting the binding on Quilt No. 9 which is going to a teenager in the UK.

Do you ever get the feeling that it doesn't matter what you do it's just Going To Go Wrong.  Well it did.  Sewing 2 1/2 stips together at right angles?  You know how sometimes It Just Won't Go?  Could I get the seams the right way round - like hell I couldn't!  4 strips, 3 beautifully matched, but I just could not get the 4th to go right.  Lots of unpicking, cutting ends off and starting again.  FINALLY CRACKED IT!

And then there are these.

Wonky Liberated Stars - yeah right.  Gwen's book open at the correct page - oh this is easy - NOT - Clare is running before she can walk again.  Back to the drawing board.  THINK BIG.
(Does anyone know how to make letters bigger in Wordpress?)

Phew - feel a bit better now.  Might have another go later, but got a quilt binding to sew on and then start on Quilt No. 10 which has already got an owner.

(AND I've had to ditch Google Reader and return to Bloglines.  Reader doesn't seem to want to open.  Sniff).

Coming up for Air

We've been busy, getting up at 6.30 am and painting until 10.00 a.m, then collapsing in a heap and trying to get rid of the smell of white spirit.  Why?

Look.

Before

After

And we're off!

The water temperature has hit the magic 22°C.  I had the first swim last night and another one this morning.  Alex's mates are here swimming their hearts out (and shouting too), and we feel that summer has finally started!

And today my cup overfloweth!  I found this gem on play.com.  There was only one left!  Help!  Rang up DS-D who was in the middle of cooking for a dinner party.  Told her to drop everything and get it quick before it went.  Isn't she a star!

And what I am doing now?  Trying my hardest to sew and catch up on those UFO's.  I've cut up an old pink and white skirt and am hoping to start on the quilt for my niece to be.  In the meantime, I've got plenty to keep me busy.

I've also moved the Liberated Quilters web ring.  Click on the Home/Join link on the badge on the right there and see if you qualify.  If you do, leave a comment and we'll get back to you.
