A New Me!

Just so you know. I've noticed another Clare has emerged in Blogland so I have changed my sign in name to Dordogne Clare. Same picture, different sign in name. Whilst on the subject of blogs and blogging, I am trying my hardest to get round the rings and keeping up to date with my RSS feeds, but it is getting harder and harder and I get side tracked by a new blogger, or the connection times out, or I get sucked in to doing something else. Please don't give up on me. I am still reading, even if I don't leave a comment. There are so many fantastic quilts to look at these days. Quilt going well, nearly there with the top and then the border to do. Got some lovely Coats & Clark Multicolour thread yesterday and am deciding whether to do fans or spirals. Which will be the quickest I wonder? This quilt has got to be ready in 2 weeks and I'm having panic attacks that it won't be. I was up at 5.30 am yesterday sewing like mad and finally had to give in at 11.00 pm last night when I started doing the nodding dog bit. When I start designing/making a quilt, sometimes I cannot see the wood for the trees and it is not until the last few stitches are being sewn that it all comes together in my head. Are you the same, or can you see it right from the word go? And on that note I will bid you au revoir. Must get some chores done before settling down with the quilt. Sorry - no photos. I've tried but a combination of connection and Blogger is making uploading impossible.

Unless I am sewing from a pattern, I have no idea what my finished quilt will look like. That's the fun part to me-seeing what happens. They kind fo decide for themselves what to do.

Hello 'new Clare'!

I've only made three quilts, so I don't think I'm qualified to say!

Plus I do a drawing of it first before I start making it, just to see if the colours and patterns will work out.

It depends -- sometimes I can, for the most part. I'll sketch out the entire quilt and create my "pattern" that way. So, when that happens, I have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen. Other times -- I have no clue until I get there. I'm working on one like that now. I have an IDEA of what it might end up looking like -- but really, not a clue.

Of course, if I'm using a commercial pattern -- the answer is yes, I know what it's going to look like. But I seem to use fewer of those than I used to.

very, very rarely do I see a quilt come together in my mind first. Only if I'm using a kit and making something more or less identical to a pattern. Otherwise it's always create as I go. I can't imagine trying to create something without a design wall. One gets such a different perspective when the pieces are up on the wall compared to layed out on the floor.

I sure know what you mean about reading blogs. I think I'm up to over 250 on my bloglines now, and at any given time I'm between 500 and 800 posts behind. I try not to worry about it - the posts will be there waiting for me when I get around to reading each one.

I never know what my quilts will look like until I sew that final border on! They are always up for grabs in the design department :>) I also am way behind in blogs....I think summer has gotten in my way!

I'm involved with 4 "rings" and have tried to leave a comment with each group. I try to do 20 in a weeks time and have gotten pretty good at keeping to that schedule.....so far. LOL

I try and make a plan first. I don't know when I have ever finished a quilt to plan. Oh, well. I think the part most difficult for me to visualize is the quilting. I get very nervous at that point...maybe that is why I have so many tops laying around!!

When I start a quilt, sometimes I will see the end result because I am making it from a pattern. When I pick out the fabrics, they look so pretty on the table together. When they are cut up and sewn into the quilt, they often times look different. One color is more predominant than I anticipated, another color is less. I am almost always surprised when I see it quilted and bound.
