A Boo Hoo

Heigh ho (big sigh). The one on the left - the centre strip is off centre and is not exactly square. The one on the right is too small! Do you know what I did? Put the material onto the cutting mat and cut out what I thought was a 10 inch square. The edge of the fabric was on the 1 inch line and not the 0 inch. Doh! Never mind, I'm hanging onto them (they will be used) and now that I have got the hang of this I am hooked! I am changing my mind about that stupid Sunburst quilt design which I loved designing, but can't seem to get motivated to do it. Despite having cut out most of the squares for HST's, I am going to string it! Got the material, it will help bust the stash and I will get my quilt done. There, 3 birds killed with one stone! Mais quand?

Everyone has made mistakes in cutting but usually it's when there is barely enought material and it's some you got years ago and have no chance of getting more. I really like those string blocks and great stashbusters too.

The thing about strings is that anything goes - you can just add another bit on and it doesn't matter. Personally, I like string blocks best when the strips are all uneven anyway. I use all the odd bits from cutting up shirts, like the collar and the angled bits off the yoke to make string blocks so I don't waste anything. They are wider at one end than the other but I like the unpredictable blocks that you get from that.

I am so curious! I am assume you are French and see you wrote a few words in French. May I practice with you?

What happened to the cherries? Just wanted to say that I have some photos up on my blog of quilts from the Road to California Quilt Show in case cabin fever strikes and you need some refreshment for all the quilters getting through winter in Europe.
(See the link to photo album photos in most recent post at quilters-cafe.org).

I don't think it is supposed to matter if the center strip is "centered"...mine aren't!

I guess that's why they say measure twice, cut once. No matter how many times we all say it, we'll still cut wrong. Is it the excitement of getting something done? I love the colours, I'm sure you'll be able to use these in another project.

Go ahead and use the off center one. It will add charm to the quilt. The too small block??? Well let it hit the trash and don't look back. There is nothing much you can do to fix it....on the other hand I have 6 with the same problem ! : (
