Music While You Sew?

I was wondering what people do while they are sewing, especially if they are hand quilting. I have tried watching t.v/a DVD but find I can't to that and sew. So I listen to CD's, audio books and BBC Radio 2 and 4 (sometimes 7 if I am in the mood). We are great Harry Potter fans and have the first 5 books on cassette (or K7 as the French call it - work it out!). Read by Stephen Fry they make superb listening. I bought Alan Bennett's Talking Heads on cassette for 1 Euro at a car boot sale recently and am addicted to that too. So you have some idea of what I do when I am sewing.

Any kind of noise works for me. And sometimes I just like the quiet, time for me to think my own thoughts and dream my own dreams. In the summer I just open up the windows and listen to the neighborhood children playing. Mostly I have the TV on to something like a home improvement show where I can watch but don't necessarily have to listen.

I listen to the radio, cds, music I have on the computer, podcasts and tv. I tried to listen to my ipod but when I got up it kept dropping to the the floor. Once I almost cut the cord with the rottery cutter so I gave up using it. I do not watch the tv just listen to the sounds. I just need sound. When I worked in the real world I had to have a radio on my desk. I left one job after two days because I was not allowed to have a radio.

I like to watch/listen to the TV. The last two weeks we have been watching the DVD's of the TV show "24" Pretty intensive stuff to quilt by - but Jack Bauer always seems to save the day.

Funny you should ask. My current project is also listening to Harry Potter. In French! Our library only has book one on CD, and I've had this one checked out for two months. (Okay, I'm a slow French listener. Almost done now, though.) I'm crossing my fingers that they'll eventually get the other books in as well.

I also love to listen to books I've already read and loved, so I don't have to pay 100% attention. Good if you're running a somewhat loud sewing machine, or zipping in and out of the room to iron. Elizabeth George is a favorite, and there are always multiple things in her books that I miss the first time around.

(And I'm currently too depressed to discuss Les Bleus.)

At any thing I do, I always listen to the radio, just a dutch national broadcast with music, some news. We have a cd player but most of the times I am to lazy to change a cd and not in the mood to listen to one music style a whole cd long. I can watch TV while stitching, but not while quilting hand or machine, maybe because I am rather new to the techniques.

While I machine quilt or peice I love to listen to music; mostly jazz Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald especially. I also love to watch DVD's of Jane Austen movies. I've watched them so many times taht I really don't need to look. I also love to listen to Podcasts while I peice or hand quilt.
